In 1821, the town of McDonough Georgia started out as a little village. Later, in 1823, it was established at Big Spring Creek.
The town of Mc Donough was established at this site due to the fact that Big Spring Creek contained a large amount of water for the towns people, back then. The first death of the village was alittle girl who was the daughter of Mrs.Evans. Another death actually took place in the Big Spring Creek. Mr.Johnson was a caretaker of the Rev.Allen Cleveland, his son had drowned in the Big Spring creek.
The War between the states had left a big scar on McDonough. There was the battle of Jonesboro and the battle of LoveJoy. General Hood of the Confederate Army had actually camped in the town of McDonough. He had to evacuate the town of McDonough by way of McDonough Road. In 1864 there had been much looting and mayhem and even destruction of two churchs that where burned by Federal Armies. One has to realize with such tragedy and destruction .
